Success on the internet all boils down to marketing.
Nothing more, nothing less. And the marketing process begins with getting as many real, live people to visit your web site as possible.
One of the most inexpensive ways to drive a HUGE number of prospects to your web site is by the expert use of Traffic Exchange programs. To give you an idea, a few years ago, starting from scratch… I used about a dozen of the BEST traffic exchanges to drive over 14,000 people to my web sites absolutely FREE within 30 days.
Today, though I no longer actively try to grow my traffic exchange network, I still use it to drive over 100,000 visits to any site (or sites) I want every month – absolutely, 100% free!
Plus even better – every 7 days I send a note to one of my traffic exchange downlines announcing a new product or service or affiliate product launch and it ALWAYS results in commissions earned. Some times a little, some times enough to make house payment.
And did I mention this happens every week?
What is a Traffic Exchange?
A Traffic Exchange is a membership-based advertising co-op designed to display complete web pages (URLs) to other members.
The general idea is:
- You sign up as a free or paid member
- You set up your account by listing one or more URLs you want to promote
- You are given a StartPage for this traffic exchange.
You open the StartPage in your browser and “surf” – meaning you view other member’s web site for a period of 10-30 seconds. You earn credits for every web site you view – normally one credit for every two web sites. For each credit you earn YOUR web site will appear in the StartPage of another member who is also “surfing” for credits.
Not all Traffic Exchanges are Created Equal
There are two basic types of traffic exchanges:
- Auto Surf
- Manual Surf
Auto surfing means the traffic exchange offers a StartPage that rotates through web sites automatically without human intervention. Each time a new web site is “rotated”, members earn credit. The challenge with auto surf exchanges is they can be set up so no live human will ever see your web site.
Auto Surf traffic exchanges are worthless for our purposes.
Manual surfing means the traffic exchange offers a StartPage that requires a live human to actually view each web site for 10-30 seconds before earning a credit. And that is exactly what we are looking for – live humans, potential prospects to actually view our pages. So, for our purposes, we are only interested in using manual exchanges.
Three Ways to Drive Quality Traffic
There are three ways to use manual surf exchanges to drive a ton of traffic to your web site:
- Personally surf for credits
- Purchase credits
- Build a downline in each exchange
Most traffic exchanges require each member to “surf” a minimum number of times each month to remain a member. With this in mind, you will want to set up a simple “surfing system” to make sure you meet the requirement of each traffic exchange program you join.
Most exchanges also allow members to purchase additional hits by either becoming a paid member or simply via a one-time purchase. If you have an advertising budget, purchasing hits can bring you a TON of great traffic at very affordable rates. The key is to only purchase from traffic exchanges that can actually deliver the traffic ordered and that deliver the highest percentage of unique visitors.
The best long-term strategy is to build a downline of members in each traffic exchange you join because you will earn a credit (and sometimes a commission) for each web site they “surf”. For example, let’s say you build a downline of 100 people who “surf” an average of 20 web sites per day – a total of 2000 web sites. Let’s also assume you earn 400 credits based on your downline’s efforts. See the magic? Your web site will be displayed 200 times and YOU did not have to personally surf to earn those credits… nor did you have to purchase those credits. You earned them based on the time and effort of your downline.
Old Report – Valid Traffic Exchange System
A few years ago I spent about six months aggressively using, promoting and building out a traffic exchange network because I had more time than money. In other words, I was broke and really couldn’t afford all the fancy tools and software available at the time to drive traffic to my new web sites. So, for me, traffic exchanges were the answer.
The system was so effective I wrote a report. You can read it here. Keep in mind while the system is still viable… the links on this report might not be because it is at least four years old now. But the SYSTEM is still viable. Check it out. If you have more time than money… it is a wonderful strategy that can pay off big time for years.
WebBizInsider – Buy an Instant Downline
Today, if I had to start all over, I would just buy a traffic exchange downline from WebBizInsider.
I currently have a 3500+ downline with Webbizinsider that I built using the system outlined in the report. It took six months of very part-time effort and the result has been worth tens of thousands of dollars in the past few years.
It pays off because each of those downline members are attempting to promote their own site or affiliate links. To do that, to get their sites listed they have to visit other member sites (my sites). As as they do that… I earn credits so my sites appear in the network. In other words, based on their time and effort I earn over 100,000 page views to any web site I want to promote.
In addition, I can send an email to the entire downline once a week to promote anything I want. And this alone has pulled in a LOT of easy money.
So check it out. Consider building or buying a downline with WebBizInsider.
After writing this post it renewed by excitement
about the power of using traffic exchanges…
… so I took a look around and found WebBizInsider’s brother, Tezak. I signed up for a the pro account. Essentially free traffic.
Now see what you made me do!

Very informative Rob! I never fully knew about traffic exchanges until I read this post.
Pro = free traffic in exchange for time and/or off the results of others if you promote the TE and build a downline of referrals. Con = takes time. Best practice is to sign up for two or three, “surf” as you need to stay active and cross promote the TEs to the audience of each other full time until you have a few referrals earning traffic for you. Then split your promos 50/50 – 50% pf the promote the TE and 50% what you really want to promote.
Thanks for your informative tips on using traffic exchanges.
Any other quality manual surf traffic exchanges you highly recommend?
Kam,
You know, I only use the two mentioned right now and I’ve actually purchased additional downlines in both. The reason is THEY surf and YOU earn the site credits so you can display your sites more often and send emails to your entire downline. So I don’t “manually” build or promote the exchanges anymore as I laid the foundation some time ago. Today, with a downline of over 6,000 in one of them – it’s just another FREE promotional tool that adds a few hundred a month or so to the pile.
Thanks for this clear explanation about traffic exchanges.
